The through-line

Product thinking as a way of life - not just a job title.

Consulting exposed me to many organizations solving similar problems in different ways. Building software taught me to convert those observations into tangible experiences. Writing and community work forced me to explain tradeoffs clearly. Together, those experiences created a practical product discipline grounded in customer behavior, technical feasibility, adoption, and measurable value.

Voice of the customer

Products I believe should exist.

I believe in crafting ideas that go beyond isolated feature requests. They show a repeatable method: identify the user problem, understand today’s workaround, propose a scalable intervention that works for more clients and processes, and articulate the business impact.

Product communication

Writing that evaluates the business process—not just the feature.

My public writing connects capabilities to user behavior, operational realities, adoption barriers, and product opportunity. The goal is not simply to explain how software works, but to assess how client use should evolve.

Build, release, learn

Hands-on software products.

Building products personally provided direct experience with the entire lifecycle: identifying a need, deciding what not to build, designing the experience, shipping, supporting users, and iterating based on real behavior. Each product is also an exercise in prioritization—figuring out what the user actually needs and resisting the temptation to build everything that is technically possible.

iOS · Personal finance

Money Mileposts

A consumer iOS product focused on making financial progress easier to understand. The product explores how milestones and a focused mobile experience can make a long-term financial journey feel more tangible and actionable.

Product problem Financial progress can feel abstract when it is represented only by disconnected balances and numbers.
Product response Organize the experience around understandable milestones and visible forward progress.
iOS · Lightweight CRM

CRM-ish

A deliberately lightweight take on CRM for iOS. The product explores how much useful relationship-management capability can be delivered without recreating the complexity of a full enterprise CRM platform.

Product problem Traditional CRM products can be much heavier than the job a user actually needs to accomplish.
Product response Focus the mobile experience on the essential information and actions rather than feature breadth.
iOS

Rebreather Diver Tools

A specialized utility shaped by a clearly defined user context and the need for simple, dependable calculations.

Before Scattered calculations and reference material.
After A focused mobile workflow built for the task.

Workplace productivity

Outlook add-ins

Tools that turn repetitive email and receipt workflows into fewer, safer actions.

Before Multiple clicks, file handling, naming, and printing steps.
After A guided one-click workflow for colleagues.
Product lesson

Ownership changes judgment

When you must support what you build, simplicity, error handling, discoverability, sensible defaults, and disciplined scope stop being abstract UX principles. Building and releasing my own products has made those tradeoffs tangible.

Applied innovation

AI and automation with humans still in control.

I focus on repetitive decisions and fragmented workflows where AI can reduce effort without obscuring accountability. The product question is not “Where can AI be added?” It is “Which decision can be made easier, safer, and more contextual?”

Oracle AI Agent Studio

Supplier follow-up

Monitor missing confirmations or changes, contact suppliers, interpret responses, and prepare the next controlled action.

Oracle AI Agent Studio

Requisition and payment support

Guide users through complex data requirements while using enterprise context and controls.

Cross Module

Invoice Hold Agent

Streamlined agent workflow to explain match exception in plain language, evaluate historical transactions to recommend and undertake corrective actions across AP and Procurement.

Automation

Configuration accelerators

Use structured data, scripts, APIs, and templates to make implementation work repeatable and reduce configuration timelines.

Creative systems

GOES and ADS-B art pipelines

Transform live data into scheduled visual products using Python, automation, and repeatable publishing workflows.

Commercialization

Prototype to market signal

Supported approximately $10M in signed opportunities and contributed to six marketplace agents, connecting technical prototypes to customer value.

Personal product lab

Everyday product experiments.

My personal product lab ranges from Home Assistant automations to physical products built with 3D-printed parts, electronics, and embedded software. Each project starts with a human problem or experience and then works backward into the technology required to make it real.

Physical product · ESP32
What changes when the interface is a physical object instead of a screen?
Built a Digital Magic 8 Ball as an end-to-end physical product prototype. The project combined designing and 3D printing parts, assembling and wiring the electronics, and coding the behavior on an ESP32. It required the enclosure, electrical components, embedded software, assembly, and user interaction to work together as one experience rather than as separate technical exercises.
Parental controls
Why should ending screen time require an argument?
Designed network and dashboard controls that make the rule visible and the action consistent. My kids can watch TV once their chores are done and approved, and they enjoy the process.
Family calendar
Why should everyone open a phone to understand the day?
Created always-visible household dashboards using repurposed displays and shared calendar views.
Food safety
Why should someone remember to check the garage refrigerator?
Added temperature monitoring and escalation so the system notices problems first without false alarms when someone takes a minute to choose their drink with the door open.
Irrigation
Why should watering depend on memory and guesswork?
Combined controls, moisture signals, schedules, and alerts into a more reliable experience where irrigation lines are only pressurized when the system is on, reducing water leaks and maintenance.
Security
How can cameras be useful without adding another app workflow?
Integrated views and alerts into the same household interface used for everything else. Out of sight and mind until something unexpected occurs.
Design principle
What does the best automation feel like?
Usually, nothing. It quietly removes a task, a decision, or a reason to worry. My wife is the harshest critic and the repurposed Portal device has become her favorite home control center!
Evidence of adoption

Impact across customers, teams, and markets.

Product leadership requires more than ideas. These outcomes demonstrate the ability to align stakeholders, make concepts tangible, drive adoption, and connect innovation to operational or commercial value.

40%

Faster configuration timeline

Automation and repeatable tooling reduced implementation effort while improving consistency. Everyone knows my opinion: VBAFE is the best thing since sliced bread!

3 days → 3 hours

Month-end process redesign

Reduced a three-person, three-day process for entering financial information to a government website to a one-person, three-hour workflow. The person in charge watches Netflix until an exception occurs, so even the thee hours passes fast.

Decision framework

How I think.

A product leader’s most important output is often judgment: understanding the underlying problem, choosing the right intervention, and preserving trust while moving quickly.

Technology should disappear behind the experience.Users should not need to understand architecture to complete a familiar task.
Every repetitive task is a product signal.Repeated effort may indicate missing automation, poor defaults, or fragmented ownership.
Customer requests are symptoms.Understand the workflow and root cause before committing to the requested feature; customs may not ask for what they actually need but their request is important.
AI should reduce cognitive load, not hide accountability.Keep controls, context, explanations, and human decision rights visible.
Adoption matters more than feature completion.Measure whether people trust, understand, and consistently use the capability. This doesn't mean perfect features on day 1, but it does mean knowing the key components that will ensure adoption.
Constraints improve product decisions.Technical, regulatory, and operational realities help reveal the simplest viable intervention.
Prototype to create a better conversation.Tangible concepts allow users, design, and engineering to challenge assumptions early.
Scale the pattern, not the workaround.Preserve what is common across customers while respecting meaningful variation.

“Consulting gave me exposure to dozens of customers solving the same problems differently. Product leadership is the opportunity to turn those patterns into experiences that work better for thousands of organizations and users, across teams and modules.”
